Cargo Expands Uber Partnership to New York City, Helping More Drivers Improve the Passenger Experience
NEW YORK - March 13 , 2019 - Cargo, Uber’s exclusive in-car commerce provider, revs up its next stage of expansion by expanding its partnership with Uber in New York City. The partnership makes it easier for drivers to provide passengers with desirable products and services while on trip. Starting today, drivers can register and pick up their free Cargo Box at Uber’s Queens Greenlight Hub - Long Island City to immediately start earning extra income by providing passengers with snacks, premium electronics, digital perks and more through Cargo’s mobile platform. To mark this expansion, Cargo will offer complementary Red Bull Energy Drink and Red Bull Sugar Free to passengers citywide.
Since launching 20 months ago, Cargo has emerged as a pioneer of the in-car experience for rideshare. More than 20,000 rideshare drivers using Cargo have earned additional income by distributing products from leading CPG brands like Kellogg’s, Mars Wrigley Confectionery and Coca-Cola to passengers. Passengers buy or receive complimentary products, discover new brands and access digital products, like discounted SeatGeek tickets, through Cargo, making their ride more enjoyable and efficient. Cargo’s NYC expansion is the first in a series of domestic and international launches planned with Uber for 2019.
“Uber is a terrific partner. Our shared objective is to provide a great rider and driver experience, and their scale is incredible – 60 days after launching Los Angeles with Uber, it eclipsed New York City as Cargo’s largest market, which we launched thirteen months prior,” said Jeff Cripe, Cargo Founder and CEO. “In the seven months since launching our exclusive partnership with Uber, Cargo has signed up tens of thousands of drivers, reached over 12 million passengers, and distributed millions of products to happy riders. We can’t wait to bring Cargo to many more U.S. and international markets.”
At the core of Cargo’s partnership with Uber is the mission to reinvent the passenger experience, beginning with drivers. Drivers sign up and receive a Cargo box at no cost. The average driver earns $100 monthly, the top 10 percent of Cargo earners make $300 per month, and Cargo drivers typically receive higher ratings for elevated service. NYC Uber drivers will now enjoy an expedited Cargo sign-up process and access to ongoing in-person help on Thursdays and Fridays at Uber’s Queens Greenlight Hub - Long Island City, making platform accessibility as easy and seamless as possible.
"You never know what you'll need when you're on the move. An energy boost on your way to the big meeting, a phone charger when you’re down to 7%, or a much-needed snack at the end of the night and your time in an Uber is sometimes the only chance you have to refuel and recharge. So we're excited to expand our partnership with Cargo to help support drivers as they turn to Cargo for extra income and to enhance the rider experience,” said Uber spokesman Harry Hartfield.
Cargo is the leading in-car commerce provider to the rideshare economy and the exclusive global provider of in-car commerce to Uber. Cargo’s platform enables riders in rideshare vehicles to instantly order snacks, gum, premium electronics, cosmetics, and personal care items or access exclusive digital offers on their smartphone while in transit while helping boost driver earnings. The company has raised $30 million in venture funding to expand globally. Since launching in July 2017, Cargo has activated more than 20,000 drivers across ten cities––more unique stores in North America than 7-Eleven. Cargo has exclusively partnered with brands like Kellogg's, Mars Wrigley Confectionery, The Coca-Cola Company, and Red Bull on in-car sampling and retail. Riders seamlessly order products (free and for purchase) from Cargo’s mobile web menu on their smartphones, without downloading an app.
